Yi Ming doesn’t just have 12 years of startup experience as a venture builder and angel investor, he’s helped a startup grow rapidly and solidify its success - specifically Grab, SEA’s leading super app that started out as a ride hailing platform. As the former Head & MD of GrabRentals he created one of the largest automotive fleets in Singapore, which grew an amazing 10x in 1.5 years.
Full Bio Yi Ming is a venture builder and angel investor with 12 years of startup experience. His most recent role was Head & Managing Director of GrabRentals which he took on in 2016, during which he oversaw the rapid expansion of Grab’s fleet to be one of the largest taxi/car fleets in Singapore and was pivotal in establishing Grab’s presence in Singapore. Yi Ming believes in the twin pillars of people and data, which he used to lead the transformation of a traditionally asset-heavy industry into a more customer-focused and data-driven one, combining his team’s experience in fleet operations and maintenance with the immense technological capabilities of Grab.
Prior to Grab he also founded several startups in the areas of marketing analytics and education and held roles in the military, fund management and consulting. Yi Ming was an Singapore Armed Forces Merit Scholarship holder and has a Master’s of Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
