Jason Smith, Chief Digital Officer for Data & Commerce Practices at Publicis Groupe, brings over 20 years of experience in starting, growing, and managing data and technology businesses. At Publicis Groupe, his focus is on decision intelligence and marketing operations transformation through the use of AI. Prior to joining Publicis, Jason worked with two startups: one developed one of the first AI governance platforms, and the other focused on verifiable credential and token technology infrastructure.
Jason has extensive experience at the corporate level, having led a global data innovation team that concentrated on privacy, data sharing, consent, and privacy-enhancing technology. He has co-founded data technology startups and data research labs. One of his startups developed a social media data intelligence software using AI for natural language processing, sentiment and emotional analysis, and topic clustering. He also established a research data lab as part of ScaleUpNation in Amsterdam, which used machine learning and network science to investigate the factors behind successful scale-ups.
In addition to his corporate and entrepreneurial ventures, Jason has contributed to media and public discourse on technology. He has written, presented, and produced three radio documentaries for the BBC: "Being Social" on social media and data, "Becoming Artificial" on AI and its implications for humans, and "Going Viral" on the use of technology during the first Covid lockdown. Jason is a regular speaker on AI, particularly Generative AI, and is currently developing a framework for Responsible GenAI.
