Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has an extensive background in leadership and advocacy, both in her home country of South Africa and on the global stage. With a Doctorate in Technology and Education from Warwick University, she has authored numerous pieces on these subjects. Mlambo-Ngcuka's career includes significant roles such as the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, where she championed gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls worldwide.
In South Africa, her political career is notable for her progression from Member of Parliament to Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Minister of Minerals and Energy, and ultimately serving as Deputy President from 2005 to 2008. During her tenure, she focused on initiatives aimed at reducing inequality.
Beyond her UN role, she has been involved in educational leadership as the Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, emphasizing the importance of adapting education to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Mlambo-Ngcuka is also the founder of the Umlambo Foundation, which supports education improvement and digital literacy for educators.
