Full Bio Marianne is an expert on gender, diversity and inclusion, economic inequality, and the future of work. She is currently a Senior Research Scholar at Stanford University’s VMware Women's Leadership Innovation Lab; and is also an affiliate at the Stanford Center on Poverty & Inequality. Marianne was the lead researcher for Sheryl Sandberg’s NYT bestseller Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead and she is an author on all of the Lean In & McKinsey Women in the Workplace reports. She has also written a book, Cut Adrift: Families in Insecure Times, that examines how families are coping in an insecure age.

Marianne regularly speaks, writes, and consults on these topics for media outlets like The Atlantic, The New York Times, and Harvard Business Review and companies such as Adobe and Sony. She is also an advisory board member of the Time’s Up, Measure Up initiative, a senior advisor to McKinsey, and an affiliated educator for the Center for Institutional Courage. In 2022, she was named one of LinkedIn’s Top Voices for Gender Equity. She received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley.
