  • Identify the top leader motivation and their objectives
  • Understand the top leader's beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Assess your fit as an HRBP with this leader
  • Evaluate the leader's investment in cultural change
  • Align the business strategy with the desired culture
  • Identify behaviors that will drive the business strategy
  • Assess the current organizational culture
  • Observe and document prevalent behaviors
  • Analyze the origins and duration of these behaviors
  • Determine the benefits and drawbacks of current behaviors
  • Evaluate what is working well in the current culture
  • Identify areas where the culture is holding the organization back
  • Analyze the current top leadership team / top 10% of leaders
  • Compare current behaviors of top leadership to the model culture
  • Measure the top leadership team's investment in cultural change

Reflection Questions

Top Leader's Goals and Characteristics

  • What does your top leader want to achieve?
  • Who is this person?
  • What do they believe in?
  • What are their strengths and weaknesses?
  • Am I, as an HRBP, a good match for this leader?

Leader's Investment in Cultural Change

  • How invested is your leader in changing the culture?
  • What steps have they taken to demonstrate this investment?

Business Strategy and Culture Alignment

  • What is the business strategy?
  • What culture would support that business strategy?

Behavioral Drivers

  • What types of behaviors would lead to success?

Current Culture Assessment

  • What is the culture currently present?
  • What behaviors are you observing?
  • How long have these behaviors been present?
  • Where are these behaviors stemming from?
  • How have these behaviors been serving the organization?

Evaluating Current Culture

  • What is working well about the current culture?
  • Where is the culture holding the organization back?

Leadership Team Analysis

  • What is the current top leadership team or top 10% of leaders like?
  • How close or far are they behaving to the model culture?
  • How is the top leadership team invested in cultural change?
  • How do they track against the desired culture?
